I held off reviewing this book until I saw the movie so I could compare the two. As per norm the book is way better than the movie and I was frustrated by the storyline from the book being condensed so much to fit into a movie. However it worked and it didn't change anything to drastically.
What I like about watching a movie after reading the book, is seeing how similar it was to what I played out in my head and I always enjoy when it's better. For this, it was definitely the characters and they picked them perfectly.
This is probably as far as I would ever go in terms of thriller and suspense because I am a giant wuss, however it was definitely the quickest I have read a book whilst being a mum!
I feel I can't talk about the story in fear of giving all the twists and secrets away so will only share that it is a highly recommended read and if possible, read the book before you see the movie. It is definitely not for a reader who needs an uplifting and happily ever after ending, which is certainly my kind of book so just read a funny one after it!
The setting is weird and I imagine if I lived in a town like that, I would be a misery. The relationship between all the characters are very unattached so reactions from each of them throughout the story is constantly suspicious and unmoving. This keeps us readers on our toes to never be ruling anyone out and what they might be hiding.
All in all you don't come away smiling yet you cannot put the book down until it's finished. You find a new appreciation for your husband and hope that feeling is mutual!
The book is well written and contagious. It will have you in constant OMG's and the temptation to flick through chapters ahead is too much and I couldn't help myself a couple of times during my read.
Side Note: This has extreme language, gory details and not for the overly conservative.
