Ah Spring (yep I know it's officially tomorrow). The weather finally starts to warm up and I can get my snow white legs and arms out. Side note, If you are near me be prepared with a pair sunnies because I am glowing and not the pregnant kind! While I love Spring and claim it to be my favourite time of the year, I say this completely filled on every antihistamine I can safely consume. Without it, Spring is my number one nemesis. Bit twisted really hey? But you have known me long enough now. I do this mixed emotion stuff! Trees are all starting to blossom and it honestly lifts my spirits seeing plants of pink, purple and white (not yellow, anything but yellow). My washing hangs on the line outside in full sun, soaking up that fresh and clean smell. Another side note, did you know the sun is the best way to get rid of stains?
Our new routine of home time and straight outside for play is my favourite. For us it means my kids are too busy playing to eat so my snack tin gets a bit if a break from afternoon boredom eating. I don't feel like a failure of a mum making my kids sit in front of the TV for hours so I can get things done and it's so much easier to get in a few minutes to put my feet up. All round mood lifter!
And yay for no more disgusting snotty noses and kids coughing in my face when they are telling me something. My windows are now open and a can of Glen 20 has been emptied on every room to push the bugs outside and kill any stubborn ones left lingering. So far so good!
I never really got the whole Spring clean thing before I had kids but hello, who did? When there is just two of you, you either a, don't give a hoot what your house looks like because you are never home or b, because you only had two of you to clean up after, and again, hardly ever home. But now, oh I totally embrace the Spring clean. I just can't be bothered in Winter, it's too cold and I just want to sit by the fire with my blanket, my ugg boots and a heap of high carb comfort food. Yes my house got the token wipe and vacuum, and I kept it tidy, but the layers of crap were storing itself for the big moment. So here we are, Spring Clean Time!!
I am sure you all have you own methods and maybe even do yours a completely different time, but for me, it's Spring and I thought I would share the process.
I am a lover of lists. Nothing makes me happier than ticking off a finished task. So with a coffee in hand, I begin to write my list, marking every room in my house and all the things I want to sort and clean in the room. Anal much... yes I am! Example below
- sort and clean each cupboard
- throw away unused items (anything unused over a year)
- clean out pantry
- clean out fridge
- wash cupboards
- clean oven
Kid's Bedroom - Jack
- Sort through clothes - refold, store away, throw
- clean windows
- sort through and clean toys
- wash pillows and quilt
- clean skirting
I could keep going but you get where I am going with this. Basically if it can be cleaned or sorted, it makes the list. Now of course, I would like the think I have a perfectly clean house at the end and it stays that way until next Spring but my kids can sometimes be part animal (and a certain other adult living under our roof that isn't me) so yes I do have a perfectly spotless house..... for about 10 minutes!
I was chatting with a friend last week and she asked me if I still go nuts over stationary being a teacher but not currently teaching. She already knew the answer was yes when my eyes lit up at the word stationary. A new observation of myself today though, was that I discovered I have another obsession. I am guessing it has developed since becoming a mum, and while I haven't been teaching, because oh my gosh, I found about twenty and seriously this is no exaggeration, which I am quite famous for; but twenty lunch boxes in my plastic cupboard! What the hell! Where did they all come from? My kids literally have every character lunch box and name a colour and I can assure you, I have it! Clearly my addiction shifted onto something that was part of my new life but twenty, really? I have three children, my husband doesn't take lunch and I eat off a plate. No wonder I constantly have to throw my clean plastic wear in the cupboard and quickly shut the door. Does anyone else do that? Is that the most annoying cupboard or what! My new kitchen will have only drawers I swear! So yep they definitely got sorted out and while my kids were busy elsewhere to not have to deal with 'I need and love this, please can we keep it' purposes.
I now leave you to continue on with 'the magical list of cleanliness' but before I go I would absolutely love to hear any of your Spring clean or minus the Spring but just cleaning tips that you do on your special big clean outs. This is beneficial to both me borrowing your tip and any new mums who want in on the Spring Clean bizzo. Comment below or spread the word and comment on my Facebook page or Instagram under my blog post.
