Listening to Hope Radio station this morning they bought up the topic of wearing gym clothes for casual wear. I had to share it today because this is me to a tee and I don't think I'm a loner on this one either!
Leggings, casual tee, jumper on or around the waist covering the booty and a pair of sneakers has pretty much become my Monday to Friday. Why? Well there is firstly that smidgen of a chance I may do a workout in the zero time I have. I wake up every morning or at least go to bed at night with a plan of doing a serious workout at some point in the day. Walk, run, circuit training or weights, something of that kind. I don't have a gym membership or a personal trainer (so need one) so it is up to me and my unmotivated body. Dressing for the part I feel that if I am suddenly overcome with the need to work up a sweat then I'm dressed and ready before that need completely disappears. I am getting better in my defence and as so many of my friends say exercise will stop you feeling so tired, while I believe them, the choice to exercise or put my feet up for half an hour, the couch usually wins. If you have any tips then feel free to throw them my way!
Exercise aside, there is no clothes (apart from pj's) more comfortable in my opinion. Running errands between school, spending a few hours a day at the computer writing, soccer practice swimming lessons you name it; I want or even need to be in a pair of sneakers not my heels. And why not I say. If you don't have to work that day dressing in corporate gear or a uniform then all the more reason to go for comfort.
I think the hubbies will like this next reason.... less shopping!!!!! Yes I admit workout wear is pretty pricey. A pair of good leggings will set you back around $90 but I guess if I change up my tops between the two pairs I own no one really notices or cares anyway. What's it to them that it's probably time they were thrown in the wash. Risky though, they may not be dry before the next morning. However back to the shopping aspect. I treated myself to a couple of winter tops at H&M a few weeks ago and because they are making their way out generally on weekends and once or twice during the week, I am always feeling like I have something new on. Not to mention the odd comment asking if it is. Winning! I'm still in that mind set of buying a new wardrobe when I'm back to pre baby weight. That is quite a while away but never the less I'm getting full wear out of the tiny amount of clothes in my not huge but moderate wardrobe mainly full of things I don't wear, because they either don't fit me (yet) or I may wear it sometimes. So, this small section of wearable outfits seem like new as they make their way out once a week or a few times a month.
Mornings are pretty tight for us so I barely have time to put on some makeup and brush my hair than have a tanty in front of my wardrobe about what I'm going to wear to Woolworths! It's transitioning into winter and freezing in the morning so a pair of trackies and a warm hoodie is going to trump any other outfit. Do I want to dress up and feel all girly on some occasions? Sure and I do that just to remind myself that I can be a busy mum and take pride in how I look, but for practical reasons and that lovely word 'comfort', I chose sneakers mostly.
I'm so far past the days of caring if others judge me for sitting in a 'casual' cafe as in Gloria Jeans or Donut King wearing an outfit that is more suited to chugging it out on a treadmill than chowing down a coffee with hot cinnamon donuts. Haters go ahead and hate. I would much rather have my kids sticky iced fingers wiped down a $10 Kmart sweat than a $100 shirt from Witchery that has to be hand washed. Do you agree or have I not really convinced you? All good each to their own if not.
Well next time you pass another who is dressed not to impress then just give them an encouraging nod that you get it!
