There's nothing a like a good old reminder that your dreams of starting the new year with a 7 day green detox, run everyone morning, pj days and sleep ins just ain't going to happen. Well, for this realistic mum anyway.
Good news is I'm back to pre-festivity weight, kick starting my healthy eating with a free detox known as the vomiting bug. Yes, that is how my little family and I spent our first few days of the new year. Twelve loads of washing and some vigorous carpet scrubbing later, we are now bug free.
'Well at least you lost all the weight you would have put on over Christmas', yeah that's true but thought I was going to die in the process so absolutely not worth it! I would happily take those 2kgs back than relive that nightmare.
The nurturing mother in me was tested to it's max as my kids dropped like flies. Franklin spread his first load in the middle of Ikea's checkout line so we became those parents. The one's you wish you could help but because its vomit won't go near them so just walk past with pitying eyes. Not helpful but thanks for the condolences. Within an hour I heard 'my tummy is hurting' and I knew it was game on and all hands on deck. Towels laid out, buckets ready to go, drink bottles filled... let's do this! I held back Eva's hair while holding a bucket for Jack and watching Franklin miss every single time giving me another set of Cam's clothes to wash. As the night calmed down and the kids had passed out from exhaustion, I awoke to an all too familiar and horrifying sound. Cam was down and I knew I was next. There was no way I was going to dodge this bullet so the googling started. How to prevent vomiting bug. Home remedies to stop vomiting bug. What kills vomiting bug. Nearest hospital... you get the desperate picture.
So google failed me once again and being smashed in the face by a bus would probably be my best description of this traumatising virus. Sleep, vomit, sip water and poo became my routine over 24 hours and I can't thank God enough that it is finally over. Do I have an advice to help get through it? Good luck is all I can say and you have all my sympathy as you ride the wave. I had hydralite ice-blocks in the freezer already, which came in handy as the kids seemed to ignore how badly they tasted focussing on the fact it was a purple ice-block. Flat lemonade and a home remedy of one crushed clove and a teaspoon of honey in warm water were all helpful in drinking something other than water but that was it. It was a matter of letting and getting it out.
We are back on track now and de-Christmassing our house has begun. Hope you enjoyed your news years and bring on 2015! Ours restarted today so Happy New Years Day!
