Oh Christmas tree, Oh matching tree;
Your decorations are so lovely.
Your colour theme, your ornaments;
Hanging on every branch so spaciously.
Where are your coloured flashing lights?
Your preschool gifts and decorations bright.
Oh matching tree, my love for thee,
At least ours has personality!
I have a love hate relationship with my Christmas tree. I walk into my sister’s houses with their matching baubles and colour themes. Decorations (some glass) perfectly placed over the entire tree. One day this will be me.
I have a few things to say about my tree. Nothing matches and everything bounces. Most of the ornaments are made by people under five and the rest have been chosen by them. My tree has a hanging assortment of ballet shoes, butterflies, drums, snowmen, bells, fairies, soldiers, birds and my 1st Christmas to name a few. Eva’s decorations are bunched on one side of the tree, Jacks on the other side and Franklin's are up high so he can’t pull them off every five minutes. Our lights need to be set to flashing because apparently it makes our lounge room look like a disco. I hate our tree because it doesn't look like the pretty ones in Myer covered in expensive ornaments. Yet I watch my kids sit and stare at it for hours (2 minutes) pointing to their decorations and jumping with excitement and I love my tree because it represents them. They each pick a new decoration to put on the tree every year and one day they won’t want to do it any more and knowing me the sentimental and emotionally insane person I am, will still put them up every year sobbing over the first decoration they made… As if, bring on the matching tree!
